Jesus the Shopper or Jesus the Savior:  The Myth of the Consumer Christmas

We know that the excesses of consumerism during Christmas are not aligned with Scripture.  The stories we hear make us cringe, but what can we do about it? 

How can the Gospel witness shape our action?

The people who were present at the manger have something to teach us about our faith.  Using their witness as a guide, we will reclaim the power and possibility of the Christmas promise.  What God accomplished in the child born in Bethlehem brought healing, wholeness and new life to a hungry and hurting world.  When we celebrate Christ's birth we do more than remember an event.  We allow the risen Christ to teach us new lessons in God's promise.  These lessons deepen our experience of God's grace and better enable us to share God's love in ways that will transform the world. 

Join us for worship at Kailua UMC beginning on November 27 and continuing through Christmas Day as we share this path together.
